BOTOX is a neurotoxin treatment that is used to treat muscle stiffness, muscle spasms, prevent chronic migraine headaches, and most commonly, to improve the appearance of wrinkles on the face. We are happy to offer this highly effective BOTOX in Austin for patients who want to improve the way they look and feel.
WHAT IS BOTOX?
BOTOX is a popular injectable treatment that gives the skin a smoother, more refreshed appearance. It is formulated from highly purified botulinum toxins that can temporarily erase or reduce horizontal forehead lines, vertical frown lines, and crow’s feet. By blocking the nerve impulses and temporarily paralyzing the muscles that cause wrinkles to contract hundreds of times a day, BOTOX can effectively reduce and even prevent etched-in lines in the skin. BOTOX can also lift the corners of the mouth that sag with age, smooth out the “pin-cushion” look in some chins, soften smokers’ lines around the mouth, and soften vertical lines in the neck.
WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF BOTOX?
- NON-INVASIVE AND NON-SURGICAL
- PAINLESS WITH NO DOWNTIME
- SHORT TREATMENT TIME
- REDUCES SIGNS OF AGING IN THE UPPER FACE
- COMBATS FOREHEAD LINES AND CROW’S FEET
- CREATES A MORE YOUTHFUL, ENGAGING COUNTENANCE
- CAN HELP PREVENT FUTURE SIGNS OF AGING
- ENHANCES SELF-CONFIDENCE
- RESULTS LAST FROM 3-4 MONTHS
WHAT CAUSES WRINKLES?
- Smiling, frowning, squinting, and even chewing- basically any
- facial movement-can eventually lead to one of the most common signs of aging: dynamic wrinkles. They can make you appear tired, sad, or angry, even when you are in high spirits. This is why BOTOX is so popular.
- It can soften and smooth these creases, lines, and wrinkles, providing a more youthful and pleasant appearance. BOTOX can also be combined with other cosmetic skin procedures such as chemical peels, dermal fillers, or microdermabrasion to further improve their results. This combination of therapies can even help to prevent the formation of new lines and wrinkles.
AM I A CANDIDATE FOR BOTOX?
If you’re looking for BOTOX treatment in Waco, you may be a great candidate, depending on several factors, such as your health, age, and the nature of your cosmetic concerns. The ideal patient is 18 to 65 years old and is exhibiting lines on the smooth part of the forehead above and between the brows (the glabella.) BOTOX is contraindicated if the patient exhibits an infection at the proposed injection site(s) or has a known hypersensitivity to any botulinum toxin preparation or to any of the components in the formulation. Do not get BOTOX if you are allergic to any of the ingredients or if you have experienced an allergic reaction to another product containing botulinum toxin. Candidates should also know that BOTOX will not correct all types of skin problems. Your skin thickness, type, and the degree of wrinkling all play a role in how effective the treatment is
WHAT TO EXPECT DURING TREATMENT
As with any injections, you will feel some sensation when BOTOX is administered, especially between the eyebrows. We are always happy to offer topical anesthesia before the procedure to ensure the highest level of comfort for you at all times. BOTOX should not affect the nerves that cause sensation or make you feel numb. When the product is used correctly, the treatments can lift the brow to give an appealing and sincere look. With BOTOX, it’s essential to be treated by an experienced plastic surgeon who can judge the size of your muscles and how much BOTOX you will need. BOTOX treatment is quick and convenient. It can be performed over a lunch break in our office since it typically takes no more than 30 minutes.
RECOVERY FROM BOTOX
After your BOTOX treatment in Austin, you may resume normal activities immediately. Do not rub or massage the treated areas because it can cause the BOTOX to migrate to another area of your face. If this happens, you could have temporary facial weakness or drooping. Although generally safe, botulinum toxin side effects and complications can include bruising and/or pain at the injection site; redness; headache; flu-like symptoms; nausea; and temporary facial weakness or drooping. Very rarely, the toxin can spread beyond the treatment area, which can cause botulism-like signs and symptoms such as breathing problems, trouble swallowing, muscle weakness, and slurred speech.
HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO SEE RESULTS?
With BOTOX, it can take up to two weeks for the results to become apparent. We recommend that anyone preparing for a big event have their treatment done two weeks ahead of time. Also note that if you are taking blood-thinning medications that contain aspirin or NSAIDs, you may develop some bruising at the injection site. You can wear makeup immediately after treatment, but you should avoid heavy lifting for at least 24 hours. BOTOX results will continue to impress for around 3-4 months. Some individuals with increased metabolisms may “soak it up” more quickly, requiring touch-ups every two months.
ARE THERE ANY SIDE EFFECTS?
Every drug has potential side effects, and BOTOX is no exception. Luckily, any side effects from the treatment tend to be minor and short-lived. In one to five percent of cases, there can be mild drooping of the eyelid or eyebrow, which usually goes away within two weeks. Some patients may also experience slight bruising.
Dermal fillers (also called “facial fillers”) are one of the most in-demand type of cosmetic treatment these days. This is because they have the ability to improve nearly any area of the face that is of concern, from thin lips to forehead lines to hollow cheeks. Results from dermal fillers are subtle, yet significant. Take a look to see why they are one of our most popular treatments.
WHAT ARE DERMAL FILLERS?
Injectable facial fillers are a soft-tissue substance that is injected into the skin to help fill in wrinkles, providing a smoother appearance. Dermal fillers require periodic touch-ups because they are temporary, and will eventually be absorbed by the body. The purpose of dermal fillers is to help diminish facial lines and restore volume and fullness in the face. Dermal fillers can be used to:
- PLUMP AND ENHANCE THIN LIPS
- ENHANCE SHALLOW CONTOURS
- SOFTEN CREASES AND WRINKLES
- IMPROVE RECESSED SCARS
WHY GET DERMAL FILLERS?
As we age, our faces naturally lose subcutaneous fat. The facial muscles are then working closer to the skin surface, so smile lines and crow’s feet become more visible. During the aging process, the facial skin also stretches, adding to this loss of facial volume. Other factors that affect the facial skin include sun exposure, heredity, and lifestyle. Facial fillers can be very helpful in those with early signs of aging, or as an added part of facial rejuvenation surgery. Dermal fillers (also called “facial fillers”) give you a more youthful look for just a portion of what a traditional facelift costs. Most facial fillers will fill lines and wrinkles in less than thirty minutes, with results that can last from four months to more than a year. Unlike Botox, which relaxes the muscle underneath a wrinkle, dermal fillers fill creases and wrinkles with a specialized substance. As a result, trouble spots nearly disappear.
MUSCLE RELAXERS VS. DERMAL FILLERS
It’s important to understand the difference between muscle relaxers (Botox and Dysport) and dermal fillers. The easiest way to visualize the difference is to think of a crease as a valley between two mountains. Botox/Dysport will prevent the mountains from being pushed together, but dermal fillers will fill in the valley. As we get older, our creases also age. They become deeper and deeper, even when we’re not frowning, squinting, or using facial muscles.
- IF CREASES ARE ONLY APPARENT WHEN YOU SQUINT, ONLY BOTOX IS NEEDED.
- IF CREASES ARE VISIBLE IN YOUR RESTING FACE, THEN FILLERS ARE NEEDED.
- IF CREASES ARE PRESENT IN YOUR RESTING FACE AND BECOME WORSE WITH FACIAL EXPRESSIONS, YOU PROBABLY NEED BOTOX AND DERMAL FILLERS.
TYPES OF DERMAL FILLERS
There are many different types of dermal fillers, and each kind is unique in its chemical makeup, results, longevity, and what it best addresses. Fillers can be permanent non-autologous (like Sculptra®) or autologous, or temporary (like Restylane® and Juvederm®). Softer fillers are used in the lips, for example, while sturdier fillers might be desired to enhance cheekbones. During your consultation, we will determine together what the best type of dermal filler is for your specific areas of concern and aesthetic goals.
At Waco Primary Care Med Spa, we use Juvederm and Restylane, which are both FDA approved for the correction of moderate to severe facial folds and wrinkles such as nasolabial folds, cheek augmentation, lip enhancement, and correction of age-related mid-face contour deficiencies. Restylane is the number one selling hyaluronic acid (HA) dermal filler and the most-studied cosmetic filler in the world. The facial fillers we offer are very predictable and have relatively minimal risks and side effects. The differences between the types of dermal fillers have to do with thickness, cross- linkage, and longevity. In general, the thicker the filler, the better it will fill creases.
