Pigmented Lesions

Some varieties of pigmented lesions include hemangiomas, port wine stains, Seborrheic Keratoses (SKs), and solar lentigines.

What Are Pigmented Lesions?

Pigmented lesions are marks on the skin that are brown, black, or blue in color. These marks are most often melanocytic, meaning they are a product of pigment-producing cells. However, non-melanocytic marks can also be pigmented in some cases, particularly among dark-skinned individuals. Non-melanocytic lesions are keratinocytic, vascular, or reactive.

Different Types of Lesions

Several different types of pigmented lesions exist, each with their own characteristic appearance and causes. Some varieties of pigmented lesions include hemangiomas, port wine stains, Seborrheic Keratoses (SKs), and solar lentigines. In some cases, pigmented lesions can be cancerous. Therefore, if you notice an abnormal pigmented growth, we urge you to contact our center for diagnostic testing immediately.

Treating Pigmented Lesions

At WPC Aesthetics & Wellness, we’re happy to offer our laser ICON treatment for addressing pigmented lesions. This system is one of the most sophisticated lasers on the market and can provide you with gradual pigmentation reduction without the need for downtime. When you come in for a consultation, we will discuss your goals for the procedure and what you can expect during treatment. During the ICON session, we will use a handpiece to treat a small area of your pigmented lesion first in order to test your skin’s response to the laser. If treatment is shown to be effective, we will continue the procedure over the rest of the targeted areas until your concern has been fully addressed.

Results of Treatment

An ideal reduction of your pigmented lesion can be seen in approximately 1-3 treatment sessions. In addition to lesion reduction, you may also experience skin tightening, wrinkle reduction, and improved overall pigmentation depending on your treatment size and location. Lastly, you may also see progressive results on any fine lines, wrinkles or scarring over the next six months as your skin naturally responds to the treatment.
