What Is Pigmentation?
Age spots, melasma, sun damage, and other signs of uneven pigmentation tend to become more prominent with age. The appearance of these age-related spots is often exacerbated by frequent sun exposure and environmental toxins. This isn’t the greatest news for those of us who enjoy spending time outdoors and in nature. While the application of sunscreen and certain skin care products may help alleviate some pigmentation issues, those struggling with excess signs of aging often have to seek better options. WPC Aesthetics & Wellness is here to provide the people of Waco, Texas with exceptional treatments and anti-aging relief.
What Causes Excess Pigmentation?
Pigmentation issues are generally caused by an abundance of overactive cells. The appearance of age spots, melasma, and sun damage on the face is in equal parts attributed to the “clumping” of melanin over time and ultraviolet (UV) light exposure. Despite knowing the exact cause of these spots, their appearance is often unpredictable. Some age spots develop very slowly, while others can appear without warning. Their unpredictable nature, unfortunately, means that we can’t control their onset. However, these spots can be treated once they appear.
Addressing Pigmentation Issues
Our pigment reduction treatments with the ICON laser are designed to address signs of aging on any skin type and complexion. The ICON system is one of the most sophisticated lasers available for cosmetic surgery treatments. When you come in for a visit, we will begin the treatment session with a thorough assessment of your skin type and needs. During the treatment process itself, we will utilize a special ICON handpiece to treat a small area of your face first in order to test your skin’s response to the laser. If treatment is shown to be effective, we will continue the procedure over the rest of the targeted areas until your pigmentation concerns are properly addressed.
Results of ICON Pigmentation Treatment
Following your ICON pigment reduction treatment, you may notice some immediate results. However, about 1-3 treatment sessions on average are required for best results. If any age spots were addressed during the session, the spots will flake off over the next 1-3 weeks, leaving you with a glowing and radiant appearance. Some progressive results in the form of gradually diminishing fine lines, wrinkles, and or scarring over the next six months may also be experienced depending on how well your skin responds to treatment.
